What's new in the Canadian version of the 2025 Volvo EC40 ?

While Volvo's range of electric vehicles grows from year to year, with new models like the Volvo EX30, EX60 and EX90, there's one crossover that's been around since 2021 and is wisely evolving through the years - the Volvo EC40 2025 in Quebec.

In this article, we take a closer look at its new name, the Volvo EC40 (formerly Volvo C40 Recharge), what's new for 2025 and its eligibility for government rebates.

A change of name

As part of its ongoing transformation to all-electric, Volvo Canada has decided to “rationalize and standardize” the names of its alternative combustion models.

As a result, the all-electric XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge models have been renamed EX40 and EC40 respectively, to fit in better with the other vehicles in the 100% electric range, the Volvo EX30, EX90 and soon the EX60.

“By aligning our first groundbreaking electric models with the rest of our electric car portfolio, we're simplifying consumer choice as we continue to electrify our range and refresh our hybrids,” said Björn Annwall, our Sales Director and Deputy Managing Director.

So no, the Volvo EC40 2025 in Quebec is not a brand new vehicle, but a simple name change to remove any existing confusion between combustion engine and hybrid.

What's new for the Volvo EC40 in 2025

For 2025, it's not just the name that's changing. To celebrate this new vintage, Volvo has decided to add a few new features that make the EC40 even more relevant in the 100% electric vehicle market.

A new performance software package

For the 402 hp Twin Motor engine, the Volvo EC40 2025 in Quebec benefits from a Performance driving mode. In concrete terms, this means a 25 kW increase in power and a unique accelerator pedal mapping for more instantaneous response.

In figures, this enables the Twin motor version to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds. Electric range is up to 478 kilometers.

A new body color

Would you like to buy a Volvo with an original color that's not flashy?

For the 2024 vintage, we're introducing a new color - dune sand metallic. The dune sand color is a warm metallic effect with glass flakes that sparkle like sand in the sun. A color inspired by the summers of the Swedish coast.

A Black Edition appearance package

Similar to the other vehicles in the range benefiting from this package, the Volvo EC40 Black Edition 2025 includes Onyx Black paint, gloss black badges, 20-inch black alloy wheels, and a choice of microtech or charcoal textile interiors.

This package is only available on the Ultra trim level and Twin Motor powertrain.

In any case, it's already possible to pre-order the vehicle from one of our sales representatives. And if you'd like to see what this package will look like before you place your order, you can always discover another vehicle in the range benefiting from this package.

What about government subsidies?

Since its launch, the Volvo EC40 (formerly the Volvo C40 Recharge) has already benefited from government rebates. Between the $5,000 iZVE and $7,000 “go green” government incentives, you were looking at a nice $12,000 rebate.

But as in other European countries, the rebates are diminishing or even disappearing!

In Canada and Quebec, rebates are still available, but will be reduced to $9,000 for all models delivered after January 1, 2025.

We therefore advise you to take a look at our vehicles in stock for delivery no later than December 31, 2024, before the reduction in subsidies.
