It's been a decade since the Volvo XC90 appeared on Quebec roads in its current form. Along the way, it has evolved with new technologies and a slight restyling that has kept it in step with the times. However, with Volvo's electrification targets revised downwards, the Volvo XC90 needed a new design to remain relevant in the range alongside the Volvo EX90. In this article, discover the new...
City Safety is a low-speed collision avoidance system. It was introduced on the market as standard equipment on the Volvo XC60 2010 and on the Volvo S60 2011. The system was developed by Volvo to reduce accidents that occur at low speeds. City Safety helps the driver when braking in a frontal collision. According to a Volvo press release, 75% of all accidents occur at speeds up to 30 km / h, and half of these occur in urban traffic areas.
The City Safety system features an infrared laser sensor integrated in the windscreen that detects other vehicles moving forward. The system responds to a deceleration or stopping of the previous vehicle by pre-charging the brakes. The vehicle will brake automatically if there is a risk of a frontal collision and the driver does not respond in time, but this system works only at 30km / h. A collision can be completely avoided if the relative speed difference is less than 15 km / h. If the speed difference is between 15 and 30 km / h, the speed will be reduced to reduce the severity of the collision. City Safety has activated automatically when the vehicle ignition is switched on, but can be manually deactivated by the driver.
Protection of pedestrians
The pedestrian detection system remains alert and helps you prevent accidents by detecting people walking in front of your vehicle. It will even brake for you if the situation requires it.
Protection of cyclists
If a cyclist swerves in front of you, the bicycle sensing system will warn you by turning on a warning light on your windscreen and braking for you if quick action is required.
Collision Warning System
The front crash warning system sweeps all objects within 150 yards of your vehicle and, if an accident is imminent, warns you and prepares the brakes to quickly immobilize the vehicle.
