Officially unveiled on November 6, 2022, the new Volvo EX90 is the SUV in the range that offers the most advanced technologies in terms of safety with the goal of reducing fatal accidents by 20%.

To achieve its ambitions, the Swedish brand is collaborating with technology leaders such as Luminar with LiDAR technology but also Google for autonomous driving.

In this article, we take a look at Google Maps HD technology to understand the benefits of this feature for the Volvo EX90.

What is Google Maps HD?

Google Maps HD is a map specifically designed for automakers that provides constantly updated traffic information, making it easier to drive future Volvo EX90s and Polestar 3s.

By integrating this technology into its models, Volvo aims to improve assisted driving features, such as lane change assist or even Pilot Assist to ensure a more predictable, safe and comfortable driving experience.

How does Google Maps HD work for autonomous driving?

Thanks to LiDAR technology (5 radars and 8 cameras) and exterior sensors manufactured by the company Zenseact, the Volvo EX90 is able to create high-definition maps, providing details on buildings, real-time traffic and weather conditions.

This means that your Volvo will be able to anticipate the movements of other vehicles while adapting its behavior to outside conditions. This means the Volvo EX90 can spot potential hazards on the road long before you see them.

By combining all these technologies, the Volvo EX90 becomes one of the safest self-driving vehicles on the market.
