While Volvo's range of electric vehicles grows from year to year, with new models like the Volvo EX30, EX60 and EX90, there's one crossover that's been around since 2021 and is wisely evolving through the years - the Volvo EC40 2025 in Quebec. In this article, we take a closer look at its new name, the Volvo EC40 (formerly Volvo C40 Recharge), what's new for 2025 and its eligibility for...
Something small is coming. This is how Volvo Canada announced in May 2023 the arrival of this new SUV in the range. Fully electric, the latest addition to the Swedish family is sure to make its mark quickly on the Canadian market with an attractive price tag, while maintaining the qualities for which Volvo is known. Here's an overview of the Volvo EX30.
Official unveiling scheduled for June 07, 2023
The real starting point for the life of a vehicle is its presentation to the world. Volvo has set this date for June 07, 2023, at 7:30 am Montreal time.
So you'll have to get up early to see the EX30 fully revealed.
However, we have a glimpse of its shape with the latest video released by the manufacturer a month before the official launch.
Note: we will update this page with the link to the official presentation video as soon as it is available online.
What is the range of the EX30?
Like the C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge 2024, the EX30 offers two powertrain options:
- 1 electric motor and 2-wheel drive
- 2 electric motors and 4-wheel drive (AWD)
In both cases, the electric power displayed is the same. Thanks to its 69 kWh battery, the EX30 boasts a total output of 268 hp and 253 lb-ft of torque in its 2-wheel drive version.
With the second engine, power remains the same, but torque rises to 400 lb-ft. This significant increase makes the Volvo EX30 the fastest model in the brand's history, with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.6 seconds.
In terms of range, the 2-wheel drive version is claimed to have a range of 420 km when the batteries are fully charged.
The 4-wheel-drive version is offered with a range of around 400KM.
These figures are provisional and will have to be validated by Transport Canada before the vehicle arrives in Quebec.
The price of the EX30 in Canada
One of the great enigmas surrounding this new compact SUV is its price. At a preview event in Montreal, Volvo Canada announced that the Volvo EX30 will start at $57,359+tx.
However, it is rumoured that Volvo's goal is to offer an affordable vehicle with the EX30.
Will it be eligible for government rebates?
If the goal is to offer an attractive price for the EX30, it is very likely that it could meet the criteria of the two programs currently offered in Canada and Quebec for the purchase of an electric vehicle and reach a total of $12,000 in rebates.
All this will of course be confirmed in the months to come.
The date of arrival in Quebec
According to the first information communicated by Volvo Canada to the dealer network, it would seem that deliveries of the Volvo EX30 could begin in Q1 or Q2 2024.
The first lucky owners of this compact electric SUV could spend the summer of 2024 behind the wheel of the new model.
