The Volvo EX60 will see the light of day in 2025

Did you know that the Volvo XC60 is Volvo's best-selling model worldwide?

With a sales volume in 2023 of 228,646 units, we know how well this SUV meets all your needs.

However, some are still missing, like electrification.

Increasingly, electrification is taking on a major role in your usage needs. Because your daily trips are short. Because gasoline is increasingly expensive. Or simply because you care about your environmental impact.

So, to meet your needs and our zero-emission goals by 2030, we present the future replacement for our flagship SUV - the Volvo EX60.

An ALWAYS greener production method

Firstly, Volvo Cars' new Director of Product and Strategy, Erik Severinson, announced that the Volvo EX60 2026 would be based on an evolved version of the SPA 2 platform, already used for the EX90.

At the same time, he indicated that Volvo plans to integrate a megamolded aluminum floor at the rear of this model, enabling a 15-20% reduction in weight compared to a traditional molded floor. Already adopted by Tesla, this production method involves creating large, unique parts from molten die-cast metal. For example, the rear floor could be made from a single piece of aluminum, replacing a hundred separate parts. This process would reduce weight by 50% and the number of welded joints by 84%.

Volvo will also initially use pressed new aluminum to ensure optimal quality control. However, the brand plans to use recycled metal in the future, again with the aim of reducing its carbon footprint.

In any case, all these changes to this method will coincide with the introduction of the SPA3 platform, the third generation of Volvo's automotive technology, specially developed for future electric vehicles.

New technological features for the Volvo EX60

However, the new features will not stop at the production elements, but will also touch the very heart of the vehicle's technology.

The Volvo EX60 2026 will feature a structural battery pack, providing greater energy density and, thanks to improved structural rigidity, better handling.

The vehicle could also be equipped with an 800-volt battery, double the voltage of the EX90, which would mean faster recharging and more consistent performance.

Finally, the new EX60 could be equipped with LIDAR sensors supplied by Luminar and advanced autonomous driving software developed by NVIDIA - the Highway Pilot. This Level 3 autonomous driving system will only be available in countries where it is legally permissible to let go of the steering wheel and look away from the road.

We'll be posting images of the new vehicle on our site as soon as it's made public by the brand, and will be adding details of when it will arrive in Quebec. According to some press sources, this arrival could be as early as 2025.
