It's been a decade since the Volvo XC90 appeared on Quebec roads in its current form. Along the way, it has evolved with new technologies and a slight restyling that has kept it in step with the times. However, with Volvo's electrification targets revised downwards, the Volvo XC90 needed a new design to remain relevant in the range alongside the Volvo EX90. In this article, discover the new...
The Volvo EX30 marks a turning point in the production of low-carbon electric cars.
And as soon as it's unveiled, there's already a range extension on the horizon - no less than a Cross Country version that will be more suited to the demands of Canadian territory.
In this article, we explain what the Volvo EX30 Cross Country is, and when you can take possession of it.
Why is the cross country range important to Volvo?
But before going into more detail about the differences between the Volvo EX30 and its Cross Country version, the team at Volvo Cars Saint-Léonard wanted to go back over the history of this acronym that connotes crossing.
Volvo's Cross Country history dates back to the 1990s. At the time, the brand was looking to expand its range by offering a vehicle that would combine the 4x4 performance of an SUV with the versatility of a passenger car.
In 1997, Volvo launched the first Cross Country model, based on the Volvo V70 of the time. This model, called the Volvo V70 Cross Country (or V70 XC for short), featured a raised suspension, all-wheel drive and robust body components, enabling it to cope with more challenging driving conditions, such as snow-covered roads or unpaved paths.
As a result, the success of the V70 Cross Country prompted Volvo to extend the range to other models (Volvo V60, V90 Cross Country) until today, with the presentation of the Volvo EX30 Cross Country.
What's in it for the EX30 Cross Country?
As the Cross Country range is synonymous with the adventurous, the main changes will be to the styling of the Volvo EX30.
Series changes
As a result, its ground clearance is higher than that of the standard version, and its tires are specially designed for driving over rough terrain.
Also, to accentuate the adventurous spirit, the Volvo EX30's designers have added black protection to the wheel arches, rocker panels and front and rear fascias.
Last but not least, the addition of a black plate between the front and rear lights reinforces the solid appearance of this Volvo EX30.
Option changes
As for available options (known to date), you'll have the option of adding 19″ black wheels, but above all a roof rack with its off-road spare wheel attached to it.
The perfect finishing touch to a complete look that's off the beaten track.
EX30 Cross Country prices, engines and launch date
For the moment, the engine options for the Cross Country version have not been confirmed. But it seems likely that only the 422hp, four-wheel-drive version will be chosen to suit the vehicle's off-road use.
As for prices, we'll let you know as soon as we have them.
