2024 Montreal Electric Auto Show: Volvo back again

Every year, different auto shows are held around the world - Detroit, Geneva, Paris and, most recently, Toronto.

Long dedicated to the presentation of combustion-powered vehicles, these shows are increasingly turning their attention to mobility solutions for electric or combustion-powered vehicles.

One of these was the Montreal Electric Vehicle Show, held in April. We were there to present our new range of electric Volvos.

What is the Montreal Electric Vehicle Show?

The Salon du véhicule électrique de Montréal (SVEM) is an event that brings together the world's leading automotive brands. In all, 23 brands will gather in the Olympic Stadium amphitheatre to present the new era of electric mobility.

Held from April 19 to 21, the show is the largest public event dedicated to electric mobility in North America.

Why the Montreal Electric Vehicle Show and not another one?

Last January, the Montreal International Auto Show - one of Canada's most renowned trade fairs - took place. However, we weren't there to present our vehicles. The reason is simple: we no longer recognize ourselves in combustion-powered vehicles.

For a decade now, we've been proclaiming our determination to become an all-electric car manufacturer by 2030. But that's not all. Our ambitions are to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, with various commitments:

  • Volvo Cars expands its sustainability strategy with ambitious new targets for 2030 and 2040, focusing on reducing CO2 emissions and preserving biodiversity.
  • The company aims to reduce its CO2 emissions per car by 75% by 2030 compared with 2018 levels.
  • It is also looking to reduce the energy consumption of its operations per average car by 40%, increase the recycled content in its fleet and reduce water consumption.
  • Volvo Cars is committed to achieving zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, prioritizing the reduction of real emissions before carbon removals.
  • The company plans to use at least 30% recycled content in its fleet by 2030, with a target of 35% for new models from 2030.
  • The company plans to reach 100% green debt or asset sustainability financing by 2025.

As a result of these strong decisions, the Montreal electric vehicle show makes more sense than the Montreal show.

Which Volvos were present for the 2024 edition?

When it comes to electric vehicles at the show, here's what you can expect.

The Volvo EX90

After a presentation in November 2022, we are proud to finally show the public the brand's new flagship - the Volvo EX90.

If you missed the news, the Volvo EX90 is the vehicle that incorporates everything the brand does best: LiDAR technology, Google infotainment system, use of recycled materials, and fast charging.

Le Volvo XC40 Recharge 2024

Part of the Volvo range since 2021, the XC40 Recharge 2024 arrives with a new feature that should delight drivers.

Thanks to an update, buyers of the Volvo XC40 Recharge will be able to benefit from an additional 20% range, giving a range of 409 km on a full charge cycle for the 4-wheel drive version and 472 km for the 2-wheel drive version.

The all-new Volvo EX30

If there's another SUV that's been a long time coming, it's the new Volvo EX30.

With its city-like stature, luxury vehicle design and contained price tag, it's sure to win your hearts. But will it be able to do so at the Electric Vehicle Show in Montreal? Surprise!

In any case, it meets its carbon reduction targets with a total footprint of 23 tonnes per 200,000 km - around 60% less than the petrol XC40. This includes the production cycle.
